Former Fresno State basketball star Paul George (2008-10) made his fourth career All-NBA Team while helping lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to the NBA Playoffs.
NEW YORK --- Paul George, who starred on the Fresno State men's basketball team from 2008-10, made his fourth career All-NBA Team, the National Basketball Association announced on Thursday.
Â
George, a native of Palmdale, Calif., has become a bonafide NBA superstar after shining for two seasons at Fresno State before being drafted No. 10 overall in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers. George spent his first seven seasons (2010-17) in the NBA with the Pacers and just finished his first season with the Oklahoma City Thunder (2017-18).
Â
In his first season in OKC, George made his fourth career All-NBA team by averaging 21.9 points (the third most in his career) while shooting 40.1 percent from 3-point range (the second-best mark in his career). George made more three pointers in 2017-18 (244) than any other season in his career, while also providing his impressive, high-IQ defense. Finishing 2nd in the NBA in steals helped him receive 22 First Team votes and finishing 12th in voting totals for the All-Defensive Team.
Â
George became one of five players in the past 30 years to average 20+ points on better than 40 percent three-point shooting to go along with 2+ steals this past season (Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Hersey Hawkins and Stephen Curry). George also made a career-best 244 three-point field goals, second-most in the league this season.
Â
The five-time NBA All-Star and 2016 NBA Olympic gold medalist averaged 21.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.04 steals (second in NBA) in 36.6 minutes per contest. George averaged 4.0 deflections per game and recovered 2.7 loose balls per game, which ranked tied for third and fourth in the league, respectively. George holds a 101.59 career defensive rating which ranks fourth among all active players.
Â
George is one of 30 former Bulldogs to play in the NBA and one of two currently on NBA rosters (Tyler Johnson – Miami Heat).
Â
Throughout his Fresno State career, George showcased his elite athleticism and passion for the game of basketball.
Â
As a sophomore at Fresno State, he delivered the program's most efficient season at the free throw line (120-132, 90.9 percent), ranked as one of the top 20 sophomore NCAA scorers, and averaged 16.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.2 steals and 0.8 blocks per game while shooting 42.4 percent (154-363) from the field and 35.3 percent (122-308) on 3-point attempts. He scored a career-high 30 points in his first game back from an ankle injury in early February 2010.
Â
Meanwhile as a freshman, George quickly made national waves with the No. 1 play of the day on ESPN's Sportscenter after dunking on a pair of Saint Mary's defenders in November 2008 and finished the season as one of the top 15 freshmen scorers in the country. Sports Illustrated tabbed George as the Most Entertaining Player in the West in Fall 2009.
Â
The All-NBA Teams were selected by a global panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. The media voted for All-NBA First, Second and Third Teams by position with points awarded on a 5-3-1 basis. Voters selected two guards, two forwards and one center for each team, choosing players at the position they play regularly. Players who received votes at multiple positions were slotted at the position where they received the most votes.
