Diver Funk earns CSCAA Scholar All-America honors, ‘Dogs get team award

NORFOLK, Va. – Fresno State junior diver Kelli Funk has earned Scholar All-America honors announced by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) on Wednesday. Funk was named as an Honorable Mention Scholar All-American.
Fresno State was also named a Scholar All-American team by virtue of recording a cumulative 3.23 GPA for the spring semester. The 'Dogs also earned the honor during the fall 2017 semester and improved from a 3.14 GPA during the first semester of the academic year.
The spring 2018 semester marked the 10th consecutive semester that Fresno State has earned CSCAA Scholar All-America honors by posting a team term GPA of 3.0 or higher. The team GPA included all 25 Bulldog swimmers and divers that competed during the season, and 20 of the 25 team members had a spring semester GPA of 3.0 or better.
Funk received Scholar All-America Honorable Mention by posting a 3.50 term GPA while also qualifying for the NCAA Zone Diving meet. The liberal studies major from Clovis qualified for the NCAA Zone diving meet on both 3-meter and platform and competed on all three boards at the Zone E meet in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Funk led the team with a 12th place finish on platform at the Zone diving meet after leading the team with a fourth-place finish on platform at the MW Championships. In her second season with the Bulldogs after transferring from TCU, Funk posted career-high scores on platform and 3-meter during the 2017-18 season while placing fourth on platform at the USC Diving Invitational.
To qualify for Individual Scholar All-America honors a student-athlete must post a term or cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. For All-American Status, they must have competed at the NCAA National Championship. For Honorable Mention Status, a swimmer must have achieved an individual "B" time standard and a diver must have competed in the NCAA Zone meet.
