COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State had 71 student-athletes earn 2017-18 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honors, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon. The conference announced the spring Academic All-MW team earlier Tuesday.
The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in a Mountain West-sponsored sport (no minimum on games/events participated).
Fresno State was led by women's soccer with a department-best 11 selections. Softball and women's swimming & diving each had eight honorees while the football team led all men's sports with seven awards
Other programs receiving MW Scholar-Athlete honors included women's basketball (6), women's tennis (6), women's track & field (5), baseball (4), women's golf (4), men's track & field (3), men's tennis (3), men's basketball (2), volleyball (2), men's golf (1), and men's cross country (1).
Including this year's 71 award winners, 427 Fresno State student-athletes have received the prestigious academic distinction since joining the league in 2012. The Bulldogs have recorded more than 70 MW Scholar-Athlete awards in five of six academic years as a member of the conference.
