
99 Bulldogs named spring Academic All-MW setting record-high selections for the academic year

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State had 99 student-athletes named to the spring 2018 Academic All-Mountain West team as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Paired with a record-high 60 All-MW selections in the fall, Fresno State's 159 total Academic All-MW honorees for the 2017-18 academic year were the most since the school joined the conference in 2012. The previous record high was 155 selections during the 2015-16 academic year.
At 99 spring selections, Fresno State had three more honorees than last spring. Spring sports include men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track and field, baseball and softball.
Eligible selections must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better, in addition to being a starter or significant contributor on their respective athletic team.
Women's swimming and diving had 18 selections to lead all spring sports for the fourth consecutive year. The women's track & field team had 16 honors while the baseball squad led all Fresno State men's spring teams with 11 selections.
Women's basketball, softball, and men's track & field each had nine honorees. Men's tennis had eight of its 10 student-athletes receive the award. Women's tennis had seven of its eight members named to the All-Academic team while women's golf had six choices, men's golf had four, and men's basketball had two.
In addition to the 159 total Academic All-MW selections for the academic year, Fresno State student-athletes also had 30 all-academic honorees from its four programs that compete in other conferences: women's lacrosse had 12 student-athletes named all-academic from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), equestrian had 10 selections from the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA), women's water polo had seven honorees from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC), and wrestler Khristian Olivas earned his team's lone all-academic honor from the Big 12.
Altogether, student-athletes from Fresno State's 22 teams totaled 189 academic all-conference selections in a historic 2017-18 academic year.
