'Dogs head to UNLV Cross Country Invitational

Men's 8K to start at 7:15 a.m., with the women's 5K following at 8 a.m.

FRESNO, Calif. – Off since Sept. 1, the Fresno State cross country teams return to action on Saturday morning at the UNLV Cross Country Invitational.

UNLV CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL
Date: September 22, 2018
Time: 7:15 a.m. – Men's 8K; 8:00 a.m. – Women's 5K
Location: Las Vegas Sports Club – Henderson, Nev.
Participating Teams: Fresno State, UNLV (women), Alaska, UC Riverside, Dixie State University, Cerritos

BULLDOGS LINEUP
Racing on the women's side for the Bulldogs on Saturday morning will be Marlene Alcantar, Sydney Fox, Isabella Haberman, Sophie Jimenez, Maureen Jordan, Ellie Leather, Sami Shields and Sara Stevens. The men's participants will be Jose Aispuro, Nathan Burd, Josue Del Real, Matthew Founds, Alekos Mitchel, Jaden Uphoff, Michael Viano and Ryan Walker.

LAST TIME OUT
The Bulldog men placed third while the women finished fourth at the Fresno Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 1. Ellie Leather led the women with a fourth-place finish in the 5K (18:30) while Jaden Uphoff paced the men in the four-mile race (13^th, 21:24).

BULLDOGS ROSTER BREAKDOWN FOR 2018
The men's squad returned four of its five runners from last season which includes Jose Aispuro, Matthew Founds, Alekos Mitchel, Michael Viano and Ryan Walker. Newcomers to the roster are junior Ivan Cisneros-Rodriguez and freshmen Nathan Burd, Josue Del Real, Ronaldo Delgado and Jaden Uphoff. The lone returners on the women's side are Ellie Leather and Sami Shields. Joining them is seven new athletes which includes senior Marlene Alcantar, sophomore Sara Stevens and freshmen Sydney Fox, Isabella Haberman, Sophie Jimenez, Maureen Jordan and Hannah Wilson.

LOOKING AHEAD
After three weeks since its season-opening race, Fresno State will compete on back-to-back weekends. Following the UNLV Cross Country Invitational (Sept. 22), the Bulldogs will race in the Sac State Capital Cross Challenge in Sacramento, California on Sept. 29.
