'Dogs and Falcons finish in a double overtime draw, 1-1

USAFA, Colo. – The Fresno State women's soccer team opened up Mountain West play on the road, the 110 minute double overtime battle ended in a 1-1 draw. The Bulldogs were led by Emma Chivers, who scored her first collegiate goal.
Fresno State becomes 1-6-2 (0-0-1 MW) on the season.
FIRST HALF
Chivers, Tori Nicolo, Melissa Ellis, Danya Gutierrez, Megan Amick, Alyssa Nishikawa, Maria Gomez, Shantay Tamez, Robyn McCarthy and Danielle Pacheco chalked the start for the Bulldogs with Nicole Theroux in the goal.
Air Force attacked first in the third minute, Theroux grabbed her first save of the game. Ellis led Fresno State's first offensive charge in the 10th minute, but missed wide.
The 'Dogs took a 1-0 lead in the 32rd minute when Chivers found the back of the net off a cross from Gomez.
Olivia Muhrbeck had a look to increase Fresno State's lead in the 40th minute, but the Air Force goalie was there for the save.
After 45 minutes, both teams had four shots. Fresno State owned the advantage in corners, 2-1. Air Force recorded more saves, 2-1.
SECOND HALF
Nicolo started the second half on the attack with a corner kick and back-to-back shots. The Air Force defense tightened up to deflect her shots.
The Falcons evened the score in the 76th minute when Bre Robertson scored on a penalty kick.
Air Force tried for a game winner in the 87th minute, but Theroux stayed solid in the goal to send the game into overtime.
After 90, minutes Fresno State had more corners (8-4) and saves (3-2). Air Force recorded more shots, 12-8.
OVERTIME
Hailey Laub of Air Force took the only shot during the first overtime period, missing wide in the 91st minute.
DOUBLE OVERTIME
The Falcons tried to seal the deal with a shot on goal in the 105th minute, but Theroux got her fourth save of the match. They would try once more in the 108th minute, but missed high.
Ele Avery made the last attempt for the 'Dogs in the 110th minute, but missed high.
After 110 minutes, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
NOTABLE STATS
Fresno State finished with nine shots, eight corner kicks and four saves. Air Force finished with 15 shots, five corners and two saves.
Emma Chivers recorded her first collegiate goal, and Maria Gomez logged her second assist of the season.
WHAT'S NEXT
Fresno State will return home to host Colorado College in its conference home opener on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 12 p.m. PT.
