Bulldogs downed by Aztecs in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Swimmer Ugne Mazutaityte and diver Irina Nikolaeva earned event wins as Fresno State was defeated by San Diego State in a dual meet on Friday.

Mazutaityte won the 200 Back and Nikolaeva claimed the 3-meter diving competition to lead the 'Dogs against the Aztecs. SDSU clinched the dual victory with four swimming events and one diving event yet to be completed and competed as exhibition in those final five events as the team score ended up 143.50-139.50 in favor of the Aztecs.

The 'Dogs dropped to 4-2 in dual meets this year while the Aztecs improved to 11-0 in duals as they held their final home meet of the season.

Mazutaityte won the 200 Back and Nikolaeva claimed the 3-meter diving competition to lead the 'Dogs against the Aztecs. Diving Highlights
- Bulldog divers Nikolaeva and senior Kelli Funk finished 1-2 in the 3-meter competition and both were in the top four on 1-meter despite facing eight SDSU divers.
- Nikolaeva, who missed the first half of the season due to injury, earned her first 3-meter victory of the season with a season-best and NCAA Zone qualifying score of 284.40. Funk was just behind in second place at 274.43, edging SDSU's Emily Reed by .23 points.
- Funk earned another close second place finish on 1-meter with a score of 252.90, finishing .90 ahead of SDSU's Delaney Gallagher. Nikolaeva placed fourth on the board scoring 245.55.
- Mazutaityte earned a win in the 200 Back for the sixth time this season, touching in 2:05.87 to win by nearly a second and a half. Mazutaityte added a third place finish in the 100 Back in 59.26 with Emily Cutler just behind in fourth place.
- Freshman Brenda Diaz Martinez posted three top-three finishes on the day, starting with a second place finish in the 1000 Free in 10:30.20 with teammate Darina Khisiamova coming in third. Diaz Martinez also placed second in the 200 IM, touching at 2:09.91, and was third in the 500 Free with Khisiamova fourth.
- Zofia Niemczak missed a win in the 200 Fly by just .09, placing second in 2:06.35, while Gabbie Libang took fourth. Kimberly Harbert was second in the 100 Fly in 57.06 while Niemczak was third.
- Senior Osianna Mcreed tied for second in the 50 Free in 24.58 and placed third in the 100 Free in 54.27. Manuela Mendolicchio took third in the 200 Breast and fifth in the 100 Breast and Stephanie Bartel led the 'Dogs with a fifth place finish in the 200 Free.
- Fresno State's 'A' team of Cutler, McReed, Bartel, and Tonya Guryeva claimed second place in the 200 Free Relay in 1:38.37 while the Bulldog 'A' team took third in the 200 Medley Relay.
- Fresno State remains in San Diego for its final road dual of the season on Saturday morning, facing the University of San Diego at 10 a.m.
