Bulldogs set for CSUF Spring Invite

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's tennis team will journey south to compete in the CSUF Spring Invite, hosted by Cal State Fullerton in Fullerton, Calif., at the Titan Tennis Courts from Friday through Sunday for the second tournament of the spring season.

The tournament will host six different squads. Competing against Fresno State will be host team Cal State Fullerton, Arizona, Pacific, Santa Clara and Denver.

Tournament play will begin with doubles at 9 a.m., followed by singles matches at 10:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. each day. The tournament format will not produce any team wins or a tournament champion as each team will face different opponents in doubles and singles each day.

Fresno State will kick off the tournament by taking on a combination of Arizona and Cal State Fullerton in doubles at 9 a.m. on Friday. The 'Dogs will face Pacific in singles shortly after at 10:15 a.m. On Saturday, the Bulldogs will square off against Cal State Fullerton in doubles at 9 a.m., then face a combination of the Titans and Arizona once again in singles at 10:15 a.m. Fresno State will wrap up tournament play on Sunday with a matchup against Pacific in doubles at 9 a.m. and a closing rematch with Cal State Fullerton in singles at 12:30 p.m.

The last outing for the 'Dogs was at the Cal Winter invitational, where they picked up seven total wins, including four on the final day of the tournament. Freshman Jennifer Timotin led the team with one singles win at the one spot against Saint Mary's and two doubles wins at the one spot with different partners over duos from Saint Mary's and Cal Poly. The Dublin, Ireland, native held her own against No. 35 Olivia Hauger of Cal in singles, taking the first set before falling in three. Fellow freshman Deniza Marcinkevica also picked up a singles win at the two spot against Cal Poly and two doubles wins at the two spot with different partners against tandems from Saint Mary's and Cal Poly. With another win from the pair of A.C. Hummel and Jane Ellis, the Bulldogs swept Saint Mary's in doubles. Junior Georgia Lawson and freshman Ella Husrefovic rotated in the one and two doubles spots, contributing to two doubles wins each.

Fresno State's next action will be hosting the first dual matches of the season. The 'Dogs will face Stanislaus State in an exhibition match on Jan. 25 at 5 p.m., then take on Pacific on Jan. 27 at 12:30 p.m. for the first regular-season dual match. All Fresno State home matches are played at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center, and admission is free.
