No. 10 Bulldogs open spring slate with home meet against No. 9 Delaware State and No. 1 Auburn

FRESNO, Calif. -Â The No. 10 Fresno State equestrian team is prepared to host No. 9 Delaware State and No. 1 Auburn in a tri-meet this Friday and Saturday at the Student Horse Center for its spring season opener.Â

Riding is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. PT on Friday and Saturday. The lineup is subject to change as the forecasted weather and arena conditions permit.Â

Admission and parking at the Student Horse Center are always free of charge.Â

Quick Look at the No. 10 Bulldogs
Fresno State is rolling into the spring season with a 2-5 record. Fresno State ended its fall season with a 10-8 upset over No. 4 Baylor at the Student Horse Center.Â

The Bulldogs checked in at No. 10 in the final NCEA rankings of the fall. For the first set of event rankings this season, released by the organization on Nov. 21, Fresno State made the top 15 in each of the four events. The Bulldogs ranked 13th in Equitation Over Fences, 12th in Equitation on the Flat, seventh in Reining and fifth in Horsemanship.

Redshirt sophomore Nicole Campbell leads the way for the Western discipline with a 4-3 mark in Horsemanship, earning the Most Outstanding Player accolade in all four victories. Campbell also earned two UEC Horsemanship Rider of the Week honors and two conference Rider of the Month honors as well.Â

Scouting the No. 9 Hornets
Delaware State is entering the spring season with a 2-2 record, with wins over Fresno State and UT-Martin.Â

Delaware State and Fresno State faced off in the Willis Invitational in Waco, Texas on Sept. 29. The Hornets earned a 9-6 win in the neutral site meeting.Â
Â
The Hornets are currently in second place in the United Equestrian Conference, behind undefeated SMU. Delaware State is in the middle of a record-setting season for their program after reaching its highest national ranking at No. 8 this season.Â

Sophomore English rider, Gabrielle Fournier was a bright light for the Hornets in the fall after earning the NCEA Equifit Equitation Over Fences September Rider of the Month honor.Â
Â
In addition to being the ninth team overall in the nation, Delaware State checks in at No. 8 in Equitation on the Flat, No. 11 in Equitation Over Fences, No. 12 in Horsemanship and No. 11 in Reining.Â

Fresno State holds a 9-2 all-time record over the Hornets.Â

Auburn heads into the spring season with a perfect 5-0 mark and sits atop the national rankings as the top team in the country.Â

Auburn also ranks No. 1 in three of the four events rankings; Horsemanship, Equitation on the Flat and Equitation Over Fences. Alternately, Auburn comes in at No. 8 in the Reining, one spot under Fresno State who is seventh in the nation in the event.Â

Sophomore Taylor St. Jacques led the English squads with a 3-0-1 mark in Equitation on the Flat. She finished the fall season as the November NCEA Equifit Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Month and the SEC Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Month.Â

Auburn owns a 7-3 all-time advantage over Fresno State.
