FRESNO, Calif. - Despite outscoring the Horned Frogs in the second half of events, the Bulldogs' late scoring run was not enough to overcome the early points from the Horned Frogs. The No. 9 Fresno State equestrian team dropped its home-opener to No. 7 TCU on Friday, 12-7. The Bulldogs fall to 0-2 on the season.
Â
A pair of Bulldogs earned Most Outstanding Player honors in the competition with TCU. Senior Erica Rosinski earned the Flat MOP with a career-high 90 to her opponent's 72. Rosinski earned her first career Flat MOP on Friday. Freshman Bailey Alexander picked up the Reining MOP in her first collegiate ride. Alexander scored a 71.5 to her opponent's 69. The freshman earned the first Reining MOP for the Bulldogs this season.
Â
How it happened
TCU got off to a quick start with a 5-0 sweep in the Fences. Sophomore Cecily Hayes scored a season-high 85.5 in the event, but was outscored by her opponent's 88.
Â
The Horned Frogs kept the momentum going in the Horsemanship, earning the first two points of the event before senior Nicole Campbell earned the first Bulldog point with a 75.5-73 ride. Sophomore Kameron Thorn followed with a 71.5-69 win for the second Bulldog point of the day. TCU earned the final point in Horsemanship with a 75.5 score to take the event, 3-2.
Â
At the intermission, TCU had a 8-2 lead.
Â
The Bulldogs saw a touch of momentum in the Flat, continuing their winning streak in the event with a 3-2 outing. Senior Brooke Nelson won the first Flat point for the 'Dogs with a 77-75 showing and sophomore Cecily Hayes earned the next with a 72 to her opponent's 64. Rosinski sealed the event when her TCU opponent couldn't outscore her 90 at draw 10.
Â
After the conclusion of the Flat, Fresno State had cut the deficit to five. The Bulldogs had a chance to tie the meet at 10 apiece with a sweep in the Reining. Promising first half rides looked good for the 'Dogs, but TCU managed to edge the Bulldogs by no more than half a point for its two points in the event to seal its win.
Â
Senior Shea Gilson tied in her ride with a 69.5. Alexander started things off with her 71.5 point and fellow freshman Julianne Kelley scored the second Reining point for the 'Dogs with a 70 to her opponent's 67. Sophomore Addison Wellman was edged in the Reining, 68-67.5 and senior Paige Barton fell 71.5-71.
