FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team and head coach Jonathan Winder announced the addition of two signees to the program for the 2020 season on Thursday.
The Bulldogs will add outside hitter Brooklyn Lopez from nearby Clovis East High School along with middle blocker Kasey Purry from Sahuaro High School in Tuscon, Ariz next fall as freshman.
"Kasey and Brooklyn are both kind, hard working, and soft-spoken young women that know how to do things the right way," said Winder. "They are consistent in who they are and have proven their ability to hold a high standard for themselves on and off the court. They add depth to our roster next year in their positions and have the opportunity to be highly successful over the course of their careers. I believe both will be consistently good for a long period of time."
Brooklyn Lopez
Position: Outside Hitter
Height: 6-2
Hometown: Clovis, Calif.
High School: Clovis East
Winder on Lopez:
"Brooklyn is one of the best players in central California in her class. She is long, strong and has multiple different skills that will give her lots of options to succeed at Fresno State. She is uniquely continuing the legacy in her family of playing at Fresno State with her mom as a former volleyball student-athlete here. She is also one of the best academic students coming out of Clovis Unified and will make a major positive impact on our program on and off the court and we're thrilled to have her representing the Bulldogs!"
A four-year letter winner at nearby Clovis East High School, Lopez earned honorable mention Tri-River League honors as a freshman in 2016 while earning first-team honors as a sophomore and junior in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
A two-year captain as a junior and senior, Lopez also attended US Junior Nationals in 2017 and played for a pair of clubs in Rage and Central Cal.
A National Honor Society member, Lopez played for her mother at Clovis East, Lynette Wilke-Lopez who played at Fresno State from 1985 to 1988 and picked Fresno State because Fresno is home. The coaching staff and players were huge factors in deciding on the Bulldogs because of their strong work ethic and drive to win.
"Kasey is an exceptionally long and athletic volleyball player. She has the potential to be an elite middle blocker in our conference because of her length, athleticism, and arm. Over her high school career she has proven to be resilient, hard working, and diligent to be successful on the court and in the classroom. We are thrilled that she chose Fresno State and are excited to integrate her into our culture."Â
A three-year letter winner for the Cougars at Sahuaro High School, Purry earned first-team All-Region honors as a senior in 2019 which followed up second-team All-Region accolades as a junior in 2018.
A captain as a senior, Purry was named to the Lions Den Invitational All-Tournament team this fall. A member of both the Zona VBC and Club Cactus, Purry choose Fresno State after falling in love with the program and the coaches, players and school as a whole felt like home and everyone treats each other like family.
