FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State lacrosse freshman midfielder Sydney Skalstad was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Rookie of the Week for her performance in the Bulldogs' season-opening win over UMass Lowell on Feb. 10, the conference announced Monday.
Â
This is Skalstad's first career MPSF weekly honor as she made her collegiate debut against UMass Lowell on Sunday.
Â
Skalstad spearheaded the Bulldogs' offensive attack, leading the team in scoring with four goals. The Baltimore, Md., native made the most of her opportunities, finding the back of the net in four of her six shots. The freshman also displayed her composure, driving home her first free position shot of her career. All four of Skalstad's goals came in succession to close out the first half, keeping the game close and ending the first half with both teams knotted up at 10 all. Skalstad's production powered Fresno State past UMass Lowell, 14-12, to win the only match of the weekend for the Bulldogs.
Â
Fresno State's next action will be traveling to Las Vegas for a pair of neutral-site games against Pac-12 opponents. The Bulldogs will face Cal at 4 p.m. PT on Friday, then take on Oregon at 11 a.m. PT on Sunday.
