Colorado State (20-4, 3-0 MW) has now won 11 consecutive games and is 11-0 at home this season. For the second consecutive day Fresno State (14-9, 0-3 MW) battled back from an early deficit but the Rams responded with big innings to earn wins.
Rachel Minogue and Jade Nua both went 2-for-3 with an RBI on Sunday, completing strong weekends for both senior hitters. Colorado State had just a 7-6 edge in hits and both teams drew five walks in the game on Sunday.
How it Happened
The 'Dogs got runners on the corners with one away in the top of the first but CSU turned a double play to end the inning. The Rams scored first in each of the three games of the series, plating two to get on the board first in the bottom of the second on Sunday as Lauren Buchanan was hit by a pitch to begin the inning and Corina Gamboa hit a 2-run homer.
Fresno State fought back to take the lead with three runs in the third inning. Minogue drove in McKenzie Wilson with an RBI single to get the 'Dogs on the board (watch) and Vanessa Hernandez brought home Miranda Rohleder with a sacrifice fly to tie the game. With two outs Nua doubled down the right field line to bring in pinch runner Aaliyah Cuevas and put the 'Dogs ahead 3-2 (watch).
Colorado State moved back ahead with two runs in the fourth inning as the first two batters singled and both ended up scoring on two Bulldog errors. The Rams extended to a 5-3 lead as Tara Shadowen led off the fifth inning with a home run, but Fresno State battled back again to pull even.
In the top of the sixth the 'Dogs loaded the bases with one out on a single from Nua and walks from Hayleigh Galvan and Haley Fuller and scored a run on a fielder's choice from Kelcey Carrasco. With runners on the corners and two out, the 'Dogs started the runners and Kaitlyn Jennings got in an extended run down between first and second base allowing Nua to score from third and tie the game at 6-6.
The Rams came back with six runs on two hits, three walks, a hit batter, a Bulldog error, and two failed fielder's choices in the bottom of the sixth to pull away for the win.
