‘Dogs reach 20 wins with two victories on Saturday

FRESNO, Calif. – Junior Miranda Rohleder was 7-for-7 with a triple, a double, four runs scored, and two RBIs on Saturday to lead Fresno State to a pair of wins as the 'Dogs topped Santa Clara 12-4 in six innings and finished the night with a 6-2 win over Pacific in the Fresno State Invitational.
With its fifth straight victory Fresno State (20-11) reached the 20-win plateau and has now won 13 consecutive non-conference games. The 'Dogs improved to 12-2 at home this season and are 4-0 in the Fresno State Invitational with two more games to be played on Sunday.
The 'Dogs hit .481 as a team on Saturday and had three triples, with Schuylar Broussard and Vanessa M. Hernandez also recording three-base hits. Kelcey Carrasco ended the win over Santa Clara (8-19) via the run rule with a walk-off three-run homer and the Bulldogs blanked Pacific (14-18) for six innings before the Tigers got a 2-run home run in the seventh.
How it Happened – vs. Santa Clara
Rohleder started her perfect day at the plate with singles in each of the first two innings against Santa Clara. The 'Dogs were held off the scoreboard in the first inning but batted around and scored five runs in the second. Fresno State loaded the bases with none out on two walks and a single and Broussard brought in all three runners with a triple down the right field line (watch). Later in the inning, Rachel Minogue drove in Rohleder and McKenzie Wilson with a 2-RBI double (watch).
In the circle, Danielle East faced the minimum through three innings but Santa Clara was able to plate a pair of runs in the fourth inning on a 2-run double from Hannah Russell. The Broncos made it a 5-3 game as Kelsie Barnard had an RBI single, but the 'Dogs got one of the runs back in the bottom of the fourth as Rohleder had her third single of the game and scored on Minogue's second double of the contest (watch).
Santa Clara cut the Bulldog lead to 6-4 with a run in the top of the fifth but the 'Dogs would end the game in the bottom of the sixth. Broussard walked to start the inning and would score on a Vanessa M. Hernandez triple (watch). Rohleder brought in Hernandez with a double to improve to 4-for-4 in the game (watch) and, with two out, she scored on an RBI single from Vanessa Hernandez. Jade Nua followed with a single to bring Carrasco to the plate and the junior transfer hit her second home run as a Bulldog to end the game (watch).
Freshman Danielle Lung earned the win in relief as she allowed just one unearned run and three hits over 2.2 innings, improving her record to 7-1 this season.

The 'Dogs got two runs on the board in the first inning as Wilson walked and Rohleder singled to start the inning and the senior Hernandez brought in Wilson with an RBI single (watch). Nua followed with a walk to load the bases and Hayleigh Galvan battled for an eight-pitch walk to bring in a run from third.
In the second inning, Rohleder had a bunt single to third, moved to third on a throwing error by the Pacific third baseman, and scored on a second throwing error by the Tiger right fielder all on the same play (watch). The 'Dogs didn't score in the third, leaving two on base, but in the fourth they made it a 4-0 lead as Rohleder tripled home Wilson with one away (watch).
Hailey Dolcini allowed just two Pacific singles through the first four innings and pitched around a single and a walk in the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth the Bulldogs added another run as Nua and Galvan were both hit by pitches to start the inning and Nua would score on an RBI single from Carrasco (watch).
In the sixth, the senior Hernandez had a double and scored on a Nua single and Pacific throwing error (watch). After managing just three singles through the first six innings the Tigers got a pair of runs in the seventh on a two-run homer from Madison Hopper, but Dolcini tallied consecutive strikeouts, her fifth and sixth of the game, to complete the win (watch).

Notable
- Nua had two hits in each game on Saturday, has reached base in a team-season high 18 consecutive games, and has had a hit in 15 of 16 games since entering the starting lineup. On Saturday she surpassed Galvan's previous team-long season streak of 17 consecutive games reaching base.
- Galvan was 1-for-1 with three walks and a hit-by-pitch on Saturday and over four games in the tournament she has reached base in all 10 of her plate appearances, going 5-for-5 with three walks and two hit-by-pitches while driving in four runs.
- Wilson had two stolen bases on Saturday and now has 20 steals this year, already the eighth most steals in a season in program history.
- Dolcini improved to 9-2 with a 1.36 ERA as a starter this year with the 'Dogs winning 10 of her 12 starts.
- Fresno State is now 19-6 in non-conference games this year.
- The Bulldogs improved to 52-2 all-time against Santa Clara.
- The 'Dogs are now 6-0 against West Coast Conference (WCC) schools this season with one more game against WCC foe Santa Clara to come on Sunday.
- The Bulldogs improved to 17-0 this season when scoring first.
- In the other tournament games on Saturday, Santa Clara beat CSU Bakersfield, 10-8, and CSU Bakersfield defeated Pacific, 6-5, in eight innings.
