FRESNO, Calif. – McKenzie Wilson and Vanessa Hernandez both had 3-hit games and Danielle Lung allowed just one hit over four scoreless innings as Fresno State opened its MW series against Nevada with a 10-2 win in five innings on Friday night.
Fresno State (26-13, 4-6 MW) recorded its 100th Mountain West victory as the 'Dogs are now 100-46 all-time in MW games since joining the conference in 2013. The Bulldogs won for the 11th time in the last 13 games with the victory over Nevada (21-15, 6-4 MW), which entered the game tied for second place in the conference standings.
Hernandez had two doubles and drove in three runs, including the run-rule clinching run in the bottom of the fifth. Wilson had her team-leading sixth 3-hit game of the season and Vanessa M. Hernandez had a two-run double and scored twice. Lung has now gone 21.0 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run over her last four appearances and improved to 11-2 on the season.
How it Happened
After a scoreless first inning Nevada loaded the bases in the top of the second on a double and two walks, but Lung got a groundout to strand three runners. In the bottom of the inning, Jade Nua was hit by a pitch and Schuylar Broussard had an infield single ahead of Vanessa M. Hernandez, who doubled to left to bring in two runs (watch). After Wilson singled and moved Hernandez to third, the two Bulldog freshmen pulled off a double steal with Hernandez coming in from third with the third Bulldog run (watch).
Lung allowed just two walks over the next two innings and the Bulldogs batted around in the bottom of the fourth, sending 10 hitters to the plate and scoring five times. The freshman Hernandez, Wilson, and Miranda Rohleder all reached to start the inning and Rachel Minogue was hit by a pitch to bring in Hernandez from third. Hayleigh Galvan followed with a two-run double to left center (watch) and Vanessa Hernandez followed that up with her second double of the game to bring in two more runs (watch).
Needing at least one run to keep the game going, Nevada got a pair of baserunners on two singles in the top of the fifth but had still yet to score with two away. With the Bulldogs one out away from victory, Dallas Millwood drove in both runners with a double to push the game to the bottom of the fifth.
Wilson led off the bottom of the fifth with a ground ball triple, the first career extra-base hit for the slap hitter. Rohleder followed with a walk and Minogue reached on a failed fielder's choice to load the bases with nobody out. Galvan was hit by a pitch to bring in Wilson from third and Hernandez dropped a single in front of the drawn in outfield to score Rohleder and end the game (watch).
Notable
The Bulldogs will look to clinch the series win when the teams meet again at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be the annual Bark in the Park day as fans can sit with their dogs on the outfield grass berm at Margie Wright Diamond.

Notable
- Bulldog hitters totaled six hit-by-pitches in the game, tying what is believed to be the single game program record and the third most hit-by-pitches in a game in NCAA Div. I this year. The 'Dogs were also hit six times in one game last year at New Mexico (also a 5-inning game).
- Lung, who was named MW Pitcher of the Week after not allowing an earned run over 10.0 innings in two games last week at UNLV, has allowed just 16 hits and struck out 13 over her last 21.0 innings pitched without allowing an earned run.
- Wilson now has 24 stolen bases this season, the sixth most by a Bulldog in program history and just 10 shy of the single season record.
- Rohleder has now reached base in 15 consecutive games.
- Fresno State improved to 22-0 this season when scoring first.
- Fresno State is now 16-3 at home this season. The squad has won exactly 17 home games in each of the last three years and still has nine home games remaining this season.
The Bulldogs will look to clinch the series win when the teams meet again at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be the annual Bark in the Park day as fans can sit with their dogs on the outfield grass berm at Margie Wright Diamond.
