'Dogs see 2018-19 season end at NCEA National Championships

The Bulldogs saw their season come to an end on Wednesday at the 2019 NCEA National Championships.

WACO, Texas - The Fresno State equestrian team competed in the first rounds of the individual event championships as part of the 2019 National Collegiate Equestrian Association National Championships on Wednesday at the Extraco Events Center.

The 'Dogs dropped all four events to their opponents and conclude their 2018-19 season with a 6-12 record.

Horsemanship - No. 5 seed
Equitation on the Flat - No. 10 seed
Reining - No. 11 seed
Equitation Over Fences - No. 13 seed

How it happened
The Bulldogs opened up their day with Equitation Over Fences against No. 4-seeded South Carolina and Reining against No. 6-seeded Auburn. Fresno State dropped both of the events to its opponents. South Carolina swept the Fences while Auburn won the Reining, 3-1.

Junior Shea Gilson earned the first Bulldog point in the Nationals run with a 208-206.5 Reining ride over her Auburn opponent.

Fresno State then faced South Carolina, who was seeded 12th, in the Horsemanship. The Gamecocks took the event, 3-1. Freshman Hannah Buijs won her point in her ride with a team-high 217 to her opponent's 205.

With the Bulldogs being out by elimination from the first three events, it came down to Equitation on the Flat to keep Fresno State's presence at Nationals alive .

Fresno State went up against South Carolina, who was the No. 7 seed, in the Flat. Redshirt junior Brooke Nelson earned her point with a 225-209 ride, but that was all that could be done for the 'Dogs on the day and South Carolina took the Flat, 3-1.
