‘Dogs score 10 top-five results at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Fresno State track and field team was back in action on Saturday where the Bulldogs scored 10 top-five finishes at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. Ellie Leather, Nienka Du Toit and Tanner Torrez each walked away with Fresno State's top finish of the day as they placed second in their events.

Leather earned her result after clocking a personal best time of 4:28.71 in the 1500 meters. Her time was nearly four seconds faster than her previous best which was set in the final of last year's Mountain West Championship.

Du Toit placed second in the javelin, landing a mark of 39.23m/128-8, just off of her current season best. Isabel Posch also posted a fifth-place finish in the event at 37.86m/124-2. Also in the throws, Ronja Sowalder placed fourth in the shot put with her best toss of the spring at 12.79m/41-11.5.

The Bulldogs also claimed two of the top four spots in the long jump as Noelina Madarieta took third with a PR of 5.72m/18-9.25, while Breanna Covington was right behind her in fourth with a mark of 5.66m/18-7. Also in the jumps, Tijana Antic placed third in the triple, landing a mark of 11.81m/38-9.

Torrez grabbed the top finish for the men's team as the senior was just off his personal record in the high jump, clearing 1.95m/6-4.75. It was the fifth time in six meets this season that Torrez has cleared at least 1.95m.

Shane Atkinson continued to push the bar higher in the pole vault, earning his third third-place finish today, clearing a season-best mark of 4.95m/16-2.75.

In total the Bulldogs combined for 10 top-five finishes on the day and 20 'Dogs finished in the top 10 at the meet.
