Slover signs to play professionally in Finland

FRESNO, Calif. – Former Fresno State outside hitter Taylor Slover has signed a contract with WoVo Rovaniemi to play professionally in Finland starting in August.
An All-MW selection last year, Slover will be the the first Bulldog to play professionally since former 'Dogs Holly Franks and Korrin Wild played in Sweden and France, respectively, in 2014.
"I'm super excited to just continue my career!" Slover said. "I really want to just keep playing as long as I'm healthy and good enough."
Rovaniemi is a small city in northern Finland that is just four miles south of the Arctic Circle. A valley native from Visalia, Slover will not only be immersed in a new culture but also a completely different climate than she has experienced before.
"In Finland, I want to adapt to what it's like to live in another country," she said, "and the volleyball will come into play after that."
In a press release posted by WoVo Rovaniemi, head coach Teemu Mäkikyrö described Slover as "a versatile player with a high quality reception and a good attack" (roughly translated from Finnish). There is another former US collegiate player on the roster as former Cal middle blocker Jenelle Jordan is entering her second season with the team.
Slover graduated from Fresno State last week with a degree in mathematics-teaching. She earned All-MW honors last season as she led the 'Dogs to their best MW finish in program history and most wins since the 2002 season. She was also a four-time Academic All-MW selection and received the Bulldog Spirt award at Fresno State's Night of Champions gala on May 1.
Last season Slover led the Bulldogs and ranked second in the MW and 37th in NCAA Div. I with 480 kills. She led the team in kills in 27 matches and had 20 or more kills in five matches with a career-high tying 25 kills vs. San Jose State, tied for the fifth most kills in a four set match in program history. She had double-digit kills in each of the last 16 matches of the season, including Fresno State's win over UC Santa Barbara in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC).
As a senior Slover also led the team in attacks and ranked second with 320 digs and 2.46 digs per set. She led the squad and ranked second in the MW with 14 double-doubles, the most by a Bulldog since 2014, and was also second on the team in service aces and fourth in blocks.
Slover started every Fresno State match as a junior and senior and saw 32 starts over her first two seasons. For her career she ranks eighth in program history in career attacks and shined on the court, in the classroom, and in the community throughout her four seasons as a Bulldog.
