A tight battle between Fresno State and Pacific went down to the wire. The Bulldogs hit the road on Feb. 8th for their next match against BYU.
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's tennis team had a promising start with a quick win in doubles, only to later fall 4-3 to the Pacific Tigers on Saturday afternoon at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center..
"In singles, we did a good job in some spots at taking our chances," Fresno State head coach Mariana Cobra said. "However, we had a lot of other chances throughout the day where we didn't capitalize, which ended up costing us the match. We will take the positives from today and get back to work this week."
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES –Â
The Bulldogs had a great start with a 6-1, 6-2 knock out, from No. 1 (Georgia Lawson/Shir Azran)Â and No. 3 (Ella Hosrefovic/Alessia Dario), in doubles play to give them the court advantage going into singles action.
With such an overwhelming victory in doubles, the 'Dogs were in prime position to finish the day strong if they continued to execute in winning situations.
"We did a much better job in doubles with energy and intensity and that was huge to take the doubles point," Cobra said.
Â
SINGLES –
However, quickly into singles play, the overall score was tied up 2-2.Â
Shir Azran gave the 'Dogs their second point, as she shut down her opponent, 6-2, 6-3.
The deciding point came down to court 6 with Alessia Dario playing for the Bulldogs, with the overall match score again being tied up 3-3. After showing great resilience, Dario came up just short - falling in straight sets, 4-6, 7-5.
