The Fresno State men’s basketball’s team is scheduled to tip off its 2020-21 season on Thanksgiving Eve at the Save Mart Center.
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's basketball team tips off its nonconference schedule with three games in the first six days of the season, including a Thanksgiving Eve opener at the Save Mart Center.
With the fluid nature of college basketball scheduling in 2020, the Bulldogs are close to having their 27-game schedule finalized, which includes three games in November.
Fresno State is set to open the 2020-21 season at the Save Mart Center when the 'Dogs host the William Jessup University Warriors on Nov. 25.
Fresno State will then compete in a multi-team event with the Pacific Tigers and UC Riverside Highlanders. The Bulldogs will play at Pacific on Nov. 27 and return home to face UCR on Nov. 30.
Due to current state guidelines, fans are not able to attend home games at the Save Mart Center during the 2020-21 season. Additional announcements on television selections and start times will be released in conjunction with the MW when available, along with the remaining nonconference contests. All in-person activities are subject to approval from state, county and local officials.
Mountain West announces changes to 2020-21 basketball formats
The Mountain West announced changes to the 2020-21 men's and women's basketball formats on Monday afternoon which emphasize the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches and staff while significantly reducing travel. The Conference will move to a 20-game schedule under a modified format that will play out over 11 weeks within the context of state, county and local guidelines.
In the new format, MW teams will face each other in a two-game series in the same week with a one-day break between contests. Each institution will have five home and five road series, reducing the regular travel schedule by four weeks to help mitigate potential virus exposures.
League play will begin in December and conclude the last week of February. The format adjustments create flexibility throughout the season to potentially reschedule games which may need to be postponed as the schedule plays out. This is a one-year model adopted specifically to address the unique challenges of the current COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2020-21 Mountain West men's and women's basketball schedules are forthcoming.
