Fresno State breaks three records on day two of MW Championship

MINNEAPOLIS – Three more Fresno State school records have been broken as the second day of the 2020 Mountain West Swimming and Diving Championship concluded at Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. Irina Nikolaeva and Athena Clayson set records for the second day in a row, with Nikolaeva doing so at the 3-meter and Clayson through her 100 Backstroke leadoff split in the 400 Medley Relay, helping her teammates set another school record at the event.

Fresno State sits in fifth place after two days of competition with a score of 311.

"I'm proud of the team," head coach Jeanne Fleck said. "The divers were great for us today. I'm really proud of Taryn Patrick and her squad. Tomorrow's session plays to our strengths and we are ready to have a great day."

Diving Highlights

Nikolaeva and Yuliya Tykha both competed for the Bulldogs on the 3-Meter on Thursday.
Nikolaeva scored 330.05 to place fifth among nine divers in the prelims to qualify for the finals. In the final, the Bulldog senior broke the program record scoring 345.65 for a sixth place finish.
Tykha placed eighth in the final with score of 320.55 after a preliminary score of 300.95.

Swimming Highlights

Freshman Athena Clayson broke the school record in the 100 Back with her leadoff split in the 400 Medley Relay, recording a time of 53.2.
Fresno State (Clayson, Mendolicchio, Harbert, Moers) finished fifth in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:40:39.
