Bulldogs drop tough matchup at Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Fresno State women's lacrosse team battled a tough Arizona State team on Monday afternoon, but fell 20-5 at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. The Bulldogs fall to 2-3 on the season.

The Bulldog goals were scored by Jordyn Pandolfo, Kayla Galet, Sydney Skalstad and Jaimi Pollack. Pandolfo led the team with two goals. The senior also added one ground ball, two draw controls and a team-high three caused turnovers.

Skalstad added a game-high seven draw controls. Senior goalkeeper Laurel Maunder registered 11 saves and a team-high four ground balls. As a team, the 'Dogs recorded 22 shots, 19 ground balls, 11 draw controls and seven caused turnovers.

How it happened
Arizona State got out to a 3-0 start in the first four minutes of the game before the 'Dogs could get on the board with a free position goal from Galet. The Sun Devils didn't let the Bulldog goal slow them down as they went on to score three more goals. Arizona State took a 6-1 lead with 8:43 remaining in the first half. Pollack cut their run with a goal on the assist from Tiffiny Wallace with 8:20 left on the clock.

The Sun Devils closed the first half with back-to-back goals to carry an 8-2 lead into the break.

Fresno State was firing shots at the net, but was unable to score as ASU continued its scoring run into the second half. Arizona State opened the second half with four unanswered goals to take a 12-2 lead and force a running clock. The 'Dogs then scored two in a row on a Skalstad free-position and Pandolfo's first goal of the game.

The Bulldogs halted the running clock after scoring their two goals, but Arizona State answered back with a 4-0 run to increase its lead. Pandolfo scored the last Bulldog goal of the game on the assist from Dawson Chalifoux with 7:08 left in regulation.

ASU closed out the game with four unanswered goals.
