EUGENE, Ore. - The Fresno State lacrosse team ended its four-game road swing with a 20-12 loss at Oregon on Sunday. The Bulldogs fall to 2-5 on the season and look to return home this Thursday against Yale.
Â
The Bulldogs were led by sophomore Sydney Skalstad and senior Kayla Galet who each scored four goals against the Ducks. Jordyn Pandolfo added two goals on two shots, and Hannah Krats and Tiffiny Wallace each netted one goal apiece. Wallace also added a team-high four assists.
Â
Galet scored her 100th career goal in the game and became just the second Bulldog in program history to do so, joining fellow classmate Wallace.
Â
Laurel Maunder and Courtney Walburger split time in the cage against Oregon as Maunder got the start and recorded two saves and Walburger came in for 15:26 and grabbed one save.
Â
How it happened
Fresno State got out to a quick 3-0 lead by scoring three goals in the first two minutes of play with tallies from Skalstad, Pandolfo and Galet. Oregon answered with six unanswered goals of its own, and there was no going back from there as the 'Dogs couldn't find the offensive rhythm they needed to keep the scoring at a continuous pace.
Â
Skalstad ended the Oregon scoring run with a goal on the assist from Wallace, but the Ducks answered with another five unanswered goals to put them ahead 11-4. Galet scored her 100th career goal on the assist from Wallace with 5:02 remaining in the first half. The teams traded goals to close out the opening half, but Fresno State trailed 12-6 through the first 30 minutes.
Â
Oregon opened the second half on a 3-0 run before Pandolfo and Galet could score back-to-back to cut the lead. The Ducks responded with another 3-0 run to force a running clock with an 18-8 lead. Fresno State outscored Oregon 4-2 in the final 12 minutes of play, but the Ducks had already given themselves enough of a lead to be comfortable despite the late rally from Fresno State.
Â
Up next
Fresno State returns home for the first time since Feb. 22 on Thursday, Mar. 12 to host Yale. Opening draw is scheduled for 5PM at the Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium. Parking and admission is free.
