Former Fresno State men’s basketball star Paul George, who had his jersey retired by the Bulldogs this past November, returned to the hardwood with the Los Angeles Clippers for the first of three NBA restart scrimmages in Orlando.
ORLANDO – Paul George, who starred at Fresno State from 2008-10, scored 18 points with five rebounds and three assists to lead the Los Angeles Clippers to a 99-90 victory over the Orlando Magic in the first NBA restart scrimmage on campus at The Arena at the Wide World of Sports in Orlando.
George, a native of Palmdale, Calif., has become a bonafide NBA superstar after shining for two seasons at Fresno State before being drafted No. 10 overall in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers. George spent his first seven seasons (2010-17) in the NBA with the Pacers, and then two seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder (2017-19) before becoming a member of the Los Angeles Clippers in July 2019.
During his professional career, George is a six-time NBA All-Star and a five-time All-NBA selection, who made his first All-NBA First Team in 2018-19. He has been named to the All-Defensive Team four times. George was also a finalist this past season for the NBA's Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year awards and a 2016 Olympic Gold medalist.
George is one of 31 former Bulldogs to play in the NBA and one of three currently on NBA rosters (Tyler Johnson – Brooklyn Nets & Paul Watson – Toronto Raptors). His move to the Clippers teamed up George with two-time NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Kawhi Leonard, who Fresno State head coach Justin Hutson successfully recruited to San Diego State in 2009 when Hutson was an assistant coach at SDSU.
Throughout his Fresno State career, George averaged 15.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists over 63 games. Sports Illustrated tabbed George as the Most Entertaining Player in the West in Fall 2009.Â
Fresno State retired George's collegiate jersey retired on Nov. 10, 2019 during the Bulldogs' regular season buzzer-beating home-opening win over Winthrop with his Clippers' teammates and coaches in attendance at the Save Mart Center.
