Fresno State is one of 41 schools in the nation with at least three former players on the roster of the 22 NBA teams to qualify for the league’s resumption in Orlando.
ORLANDO – Tyler Johnson, who played for the Fresno State men's basketball team from 2010-14, scored 17 points in 18 minutes to help lead the Brooklyn Nets to a 124-119 win over the San Antonio Spurs in a scrimmage at The Arena at ESPN's Wide World of Sports in Orlando on Saturday.
Â
Johnson shot 7-for-11 from the field (63.6 percent), including a 3-for-5 mark from beyond the 3-point line (60.0 percent), and also grabbed two rebounds in his debut with the Nets, who signed the left-handed shooting guard to a contract in June. Johnson has also played for the Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns in his six seasons in the NBA.
Â
Johnson – then a restricted free agent – had previously signed a four-year, $50 million offer sheet with the Nets in 2016, but Miami matched that offer to retain the dynamic two-way contributor.
Â
During his time at Fresno State, Johnson played in 128 games with 1,350 career points, which currently ranks as the 19th-most in program history. Johnson, who is originally from Mountain View, Calif., led the Bulldogs to the finals of the 2014 College Basketball Invitational to finish the 2013-14 season with a 21-18 record – the first of five 20-plus win seasons for Fresno State over a six-season stretch.
