Series History: Fresno State vs. Boise State
This will be the 45th and 46th meetings in the all-time series between Fresno State and Boise State with the Broncos owning a 23-21 edge entering the series. Â Fresno State has won four of the last six meetings with wins in each of its last two road games in Boise, including a gritty 63-53 win back on Jan. 19, 2019. Â Since joining the MW in 2012, Fresno State is 6-7 against Boise State, which includes a 2-1 record in Hutson's tenure.
Boise State (12-1, 8-0 MW) has won a school-record 12 consecutive games (sixth-longest winning streak in the nation) and seven straight home games dating back to a 72-55 home loss to then-No. 4 San Diego State on Feb. 16, 2020. Â The Broncos have started MW play by sweeping New Mexico, San Jose State, Air Force and Wyoming to share the MW lead with Utah State.
Robinson: A Double-Double Machine
Fresno State 7-foot sophomore forward Orlando Robinson has drawn inspiration from one of his former teammates - Nate Grimes - with a focus to also becoming a "double-double machine." Â Grimes, who is now playing professionally overseas for Kobrat (Finalnd), produced 25 career double-doubles (11 last season) over the course of four seasons playing for the Bulldogs (2015-20) and finished his collegiate career as the fourth-leading rebounding in MW history for most rebounds (445) in conference games.
Entering the series, Robinson has recorded a double-double in six of Fresno State's 10 games this season (11 in his Bulldog career). Â Robinson was the first Bulldog to have a double-double in four straight games since Dominic McGuire did so during the 2006-07 season (all four in March 2007). Â Robinson's last double-double came in a Jan. 8 win over SJSU.
Stroud soaring in return home to the 559
Fresno State sophomore guard Deon Stroud returned home to Fresno to play for the Bulldogs after beginning his collegiate career at UTEP. Stroud has averaged 13.1 and 3.6 rebounds points per game so far, including a season-high 22 points with five made 3-pointers in the Bulldogs' 80-65 win over San Jose State on Jan. 10. Â Stroud has scored in double-figures in eight of the Bulldogs' first 10 games this season. Â Stroud's uncle is Cary Ray Harris, who is the program's fifth all-time leading scorer (1,584 points).
Fresno State contending in the Mountain West
Since joining the Mountain West in 2012, Fresno State has won the 2016 conference tournament championship and finished as high as second in the regular season. Â The Bulldogs have finished no lower than seventh in league play in its first eight seasons in the Mountain West, which includes four top four finishes in the past five seasons. Â In the last five MW campaigns, the 'Dogs won an average of 11 MW contests per year, including twice going 13-5 against MW opponents, including Hutson's first season at Fresno State during the 2018-19 season.
