BOISE, Idaho – Allowing two goals in a match for the first time since Aug. 22, Fresno State saw its eight-match unbeaten streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon to Boise State at the Boas Soccer Complex. Following goals in the third (BSU) and fourth (FS) minutes that kept the game level for much of the day, the Broncos scored the winner 73rd minute from a rebound off a corner.
After wins from Nevada and UNLV on Sunday, Fresno State remains tied atop the Mountain West standings with New Mexico at 13 points while San Diego State remains just behind with 12 points.
How It Happened
As was the case on Friday in Utah, the home side came out on the front foot on Sunday as the Broncos forced Valentina Vivas to produce a pair of saves in the opening minute. Just over 60 seconds later, Boise State found the back of the net as Aubree Chatterton converted a cross that skipped through the box.
It took Fresno State just over 90 seconds to answer. Jaylyn Wright crossed in a ball that landed at the feet of Jordan Brown. The senior's shot attempt was blocked but the ball pinged around off bodies and settled just in front of the penalty spot for Katie Dohnel to slot past Bronco keeper Genevieve Crenshaw.
Both Vivas and Ella Wilson were busy throughout the afternoon as Boise State, who came into the match desperate for a win after three straight losses, were peppering the goal to the tune of 16 shots, putting eight on target. In the 73rd minute, the Broncos scored the go-ahead goal from a corner. Sent in by Kenzie MacMillan, Ella Wilson managed to tip the dipping ball off her crossbar before being crashed into by a Bronco attacker sending her back into her net as the ball dropped to Alexis Haws who didn't miss on the open frame.
Scoring Summary
2:07 – BSU – Aubree Chatterton (Morgan Stone, Ashly Berge)
3:53 – FS – Katie Dohnel
72:13 – BSU – Alexis Haws (Kenzie MacMillan)
