OREM, Utah – Behind Haley Cavinder's first career triple double, Fresno State opened the season with a 71-62 win against Utah Valley on Thursday night UCCU Center. From start to finish, Haley ran the show, totaling 25 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.
Joining Haley in double figures was sister Hanna Cavinder with 11 points and Amiee Book who had 15. Playing in her first game as a Bulldog, Book ignited a second quarter run with four 3-pointers that helped the Bulldogs go on cruise control the remainder of the game.
How It Happened
Following a slow start by the Bulldogs, UVU started the game on an 8-0 run. With nearly four minutes gone, Maria Guimaraes got the 'Dogs on the board with an and-1. Ninety seconds later, Tamia Sticklin dropped in a corner 3. Then with 2:41 remaining in the first, Haley sank a triple to give Fresno State its first lead of the game.
Showing some nerves on her first couple attempts with the Bulldogs' Book caught fire from deep in the second, knocking down four in a row as she scored 12 of Fresno State's first 16 points of the period. The fourth, with 3:47 on the clock, started a 10-0 run for the 'Dogs to close out the half with a 38-21 lead.
The twins combined to score the first 12 points of the third for the 'Dogs, and following a bucket from Yanina Todorova, the Bulldogs took their largest lead of the night at 25 (52-27) with 5:30 on the clock. The Wolverines used a 12-0 run to creep back into the game early in the fourth. With the 'Dogs needing a bucket, Hanna found Haley on a trail 3. Book followed up with her fifth of the night to push the advantage back up to at 18 at 65-47 with 6:12 remaining.

Fresno State will remain in Utah, facing BYU at the Marriott Center on Saturday at 3 p.m. PT. The contest will stream live on BYUtv.
