'Dogs fight tough at Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -Â The Fresno State volleyball team fell in straight sets at Colorado State on Saturday afternoon at Moby Arena.
Fresno State (11-13, 7-9 MW) fell 23-25, 22-25, 23-25Â to Colorado State (17-8, 13-3Â MW).
How It Happened
The 'Dogs battled tough in the opening set falling behind 19-14, but used a 4-0 run with a kill by Smith, back-to-back aces by Brooke Cowie and a block by Preslee Lillard & Doyle to get within one. The Rams responded with five of the next seven points to take a 24-21 lead, but a kill by Desiree Sukhov and an attack error by CSU brought the 'Dogs back within one. A kill from Colorado State's Annie Sullivan closed out the set.
Set two saw the Bulldogs get out to a blazing start leading 7-0 after a kill by Ella Rud. Continuing to lead by five after a kill by Doyle put the 'Dogs up 15-10, the Rams came out a timeout on a 9-4 run to tie the set at 19. After the teams traded the next six points to make it 22 apiece, CSU got a pair of kills and an ace to go up two sets to none.
Set three again saw the 'Dogs get out to a solid start leading 6-5, but a 6-2 run for CSU put the Rams up 11-8. A kill by Lillard kept the 'Dogs within two at 12-10, but another 6-2 run for the Rams extended their lead to six. Back-to-back aces by Cowie got the 'Dogs back within two at 20-18 and after a kill by Sukhov and a block by Kasey Purry & Cowie got the 'Dogs within one at 24-23, a kill by the Rams' Sullivan gave CSU match point.

The 'Dogs wrap up the regular season at home next week hosting Air Force (7-18, 4-11 MW) on Thursday for Heroes Night and New Mexico (17-9, 8-7 MW) on Saturday for Senior Day.
