LOS ANGELES – The Fresno State softball team fell to No. 1 UCLA in its season opener 7-0 in Easton Stadium, Saturday afternoon.
Junior Danielle Lung came in the circle in relief, pitched six innings while dishing four strikeouts and holding the Bruins (1-0) to three hits and three runs after the first inning. Senior center fielder Kaitlyn Jennings logged the only hit of the day for the Bulldogs (0-1), denying 2020 Pitcher of the Year Megan Faraimo a no-hitter.
UCLA opened the game with a set of homeruns from its pair of Olympians. The Bruins continued to show their offensive power, scoring five more runs before the inning was up.
UCLA tacked on one more run in the third inning, but Lung and the defense would hold the Bruins scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
Jennings hit a one-out single to right field in the top of the sixth, but UCLA would hold onto the shutout.

Fresno State will return to the diamond tomorrow for a doubleheader against LMU, starting at 2 p.m. PT.
