Fresno State drops season opener at UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. - The Fresno State lacrosse team opened its season at UC Davis on Sunday. The Bulldogs dropped the contest to the Aggies, 20-12.

The 'Dogs were led in scoring by senior attacker Hannah Krats who had a hat trick on eight shots. Sydney Skalstad and Sloane Skalstad each had two goals a piece. Hennessey Evans, Megan Walaitis, Lauren Kiszely, Devon Ortman and Logann Eldredge also got in on the scoring efforts for Fresno State.

How it Happened
UC Davis had the early momentum, scoring in the first 30 seconds of play. Fresno State's first goal came from Krats to put the 'Dogs back within one, trailing 2-1. The Aggies went on to score four unanswered goals to extend their lead to 6-1 before Evans netted a goal off the assist from Walaitis.

The Aggies scored four more unanswered goals again to take a 10-2 lead with 12:28 left in the first half. Fresno State finished the half with a 4-3 goal advantage in the final eight minutes. At the half, UC Davis led 13-6.

Making it a trend, the Aggies scored another four straight goals to open the second half. Fresno State didn't score until the 18:44 mark of the second half when Krats scored on a free-position attempt. Krats' goal sparked a five-goal run for the Bulldogs. Sydney Skalstad and Walaitis managed to each score on man-up opportunities in that run.

UC Davis closed out the game with three goals in the final five minutes to take its 20-12 victory in the season opener.

The Bulldogs travel to face Kent State on Friday, Feb. 19. The opening draw for the game is scheduled for 3pm PT.
