Dolcini deals a perfect game, 'Dogs win both against Hornets

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team had a dominant performance at Margie Wright Diamond on Saturday evening, posting two shutouts over Sacramento State.
The Bulldogs were led by their bullpen, as senior Hailey Dolcini logged the 16th perfect game in program history, to defeat the Hornets 11-0 in game one. In game two, junior Danielle Lung posted a complete game shutout, only allowing two hits in the 5-0 victory.
Fresno State (5-5) tabbed 16 runs and 17 hits between the two contests. Senior Miranda Rohleder had her own perfect game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two extra-base hits and five RBIs. Seniors Hayleigh Galvan and Kaitlyn Jennings both went 3-for-5 on the day. Galvan had one run and three RBIs, while Jennings chalked two runs and one RBI.
Game One vs. Sacramento State – Dolcini tallied eight strikeouts while retiring 15 straight batters for the first perfect game of her career.
The Bulldogs got their offense rolling in the second inning after three consecutive walks loaded the bases with one out. Rohleder sent all three Bulldog runners home, crushing a triple to the wall. Jennings brought home the fourth and final run of the inning with an RBI single through the left side.
Sacramento State would hold Fresno State scoreless in the third, but the Bulldogs came back up to pour on seven runs in the fourth. Fresno State opened the inning with four consecutive singles, tacking on three runs right out of the gate. Kelcey Carrasco sent up a sacrifice fly, sending Juliana Martinez home for the fourth run of the inning. Fresno State tallied three more runs, taking a commanding 11-0 lead through four innings.
Dolcini and the defense retired the final three batters to end the game in five innings. This marks the Bulldogs' second run rule victory of the season. Dolcini threw the first perfect game since Jill Compton in 2015.

Game Two vs. Sacramento State – Lung carried the momentum from the first game into the circle, retiring the first eight batters that she faced.
The Bulldogs opened the second game with three straight hits, plating one run for an early lead.
Fresno State added to its lead with three base hits in the third inning, allowing two more runs to cross the plate, bolstering a 3-0 lead. Back-to-back singles in the sixth inning would bring home the final run of the game before Lung retired the final three batters.
Lung earned her first complete game shutout of the season, tallying a career-high 10 strikeouts. The Bulldogs' offense logged 10 hits in the contest.
What's next – Fresno State will play the final game of the series tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
