Stephenson tied for 2nd after Day 1

Fresno State’s Tommy Stephenson is one stroke back after the first 36 holes of the Nick Watney Invitational. The final round is Tuesday at Sunnyside Country Club.
FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State junior Tommy Stephenson is in contention after the first two rounds of the 2021 Nick Watney Invitational at Sunnyside Country Club.
Stephenson shot 7-under-par (68-69 = 137) to sit within one stroke of tournament leader Gavin Cohen of LMU entering the final round, which will take place on Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. PT shotgun start. Live stats will be available at www.golfstat.com.
The tournament is being held for the 57th time this season after the inaugural Fresno State Classic was held in 1964 and the event was renamed the Nick Watney Invitational in the fall of 2014. The two-day affair returned to Sunnyside for the first time since 2017.
Due to current state guidelines, fans are not able to attend the tournament. All in-person activities are subject to approval from state, county and local officials.
