Fresno State closed the game on a 13-1 run to earn its fourth road win in its last five road games.
BOISE, Idaho – The Fresno State men's basketball team defeated the Boise State Broncos 67-64 on Tuesday at ExtraMile Arena.
Â
Fresno State (11-10, 9-10 Mountain West) used a 13-1 run in the final five minutes of the game to rally for its fourth road win in its last five road games and hand Boise State (18-7, 14-6 MW) its only home loss of the season.
Â
Fresno State sophomore guard Deon Stroud scored a team-high 16 points with six rebounds, and two more sophomores – Anthony Holland (12 points) and Orlando Robinson (11 points) – also reached double figures.
Â
But the biggest shot of the night belonged to six-foot point guard Isaiah Hill, who stepped in to drill the game-deciding deep 3-pointer late in the shot clock with 1:06 remaining.
Â
The Bulldogs' defense locked down on the final two possessions to secure their third road win over the Broncos in their last four trips to Boise.
Also of note, Hill grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds in the victory, which saw the Bulldogs build multiple double-digit leads and led for more than 23 minutes. Fresno State was also a perfect 11-for-11 at the free throw line.
Quotes:
Justin Hutson, Fresno State head coach
"Obviously, we made some big shots. You can stick together, play good defense and it does come down to shot making sometimes. But I like the direction that we went. We moved the ball. We generated good offense and when we were open we knocked them down and then we made everything tough on Boise. We're positive, but we coach them with tough love, and it was nice to see them get some rewards for their hard work and be able to come through down the stretch and make a comeback."
Â
Isaiah Hill, Fresno State sophomore point guard
"I was just confident shooting the three right there and they didn't get any pressure on me, so I just felt it was time to take that shot. I'm confident I can make that in crunch time. Also, moving the ball, not forcing anything on the first side, moving it to the second side and second penetrations. A lot of that comes into effect not turning over the ball so much. We've been really focused on that."
