This will be the 66th meeting in the all-time series between Fresno State and Utah State with the Aggies having a 40-25 advantage entering the game. Â USU has won the last five contests between the programs, with the Bulldogs' last win coming in a 78-77 thriller in Logan when Braxton Huggins crossed over Sam Merrill for the game-winner. Â Fresno State is also seeking its first home win over Utah State defeating the Aggies 75-68 on Feb. 20, 2016.
Fresno State contending in the Mountain West
Since joining the Mountain West in 2012, Fresno State has won the 2016 conference tournament championship and finished as high as second in the regular season. Â The Bulldogs have finished no lower than seventh in league play in its first eight seasons in the Mountain West, which includes four top four finishes in the past five seasons. Â In the last five MW campaigns, the 'Dogs won an average of 11 MW contests per year, including twice going 13-5 against MW opponents, including Hutson's first season at Fresno State during the 2018-19 season.
Bulldogs has chance to play full 20-game MW slate
If Saturday's game is played, Fresno State will be one of three MW teams to play a full 20-game conference schedule prior to heading to the 2021 MW Basketball Championships, which will be held March 10-13 in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center. Â No spectators will be in attendance during the conference tournament due to health and safety concerns.
LAST GAME: Bulldogs beat Broncos in Boise
On Tuesday, Fresno State earned a 67-64 road win at Boise State to finish out its full 10-game MW road schedule by rallying for its fourth road win in its final five road games. Â Fresno State, who had led by double-digits multiples times, used a 13-1 game-winning run in the final five minutes to hand Boise State its only home loss of the season. Â The biggest shot of the night belonged to six-foot point guard Isaiah Hill, who stepped in to drill the game-deciding deep 3-pointer late in the shot clock with 1:06 remaining. Â The Bulldogs' defense locked down on their final two possessions to secure Fresno State's third road win over the Broncos in their last four trips to Boise. Â Deon Stroud scored a team-high 16 points and Hill also had 10 rebounds. Â Fresno State was also a perfect 11-for-11 at the free throw line in the win.
