'Dogs fall in straight sets to UNLV

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team fell in straight sets to UNLV on Thursday evening at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State (6-6, 6-6 MW) dropped sets 14-25, 18-25, 17-25 to unbeaten UNLV (10-0, 10-0 MW).
The Bulldogs were led by sophomore outside hitter Amaria Kelley with nine kills and who hit .238 on the night and added a dig.
Sophomore Rebecca Rendahl and senior Desiree Sukhov added four kills apiece.
Sophomore setter Mikayla Weiss had a team-high 16 assists, one shy of her career high, and senior Jocelyn Rodriguez added 16 digs.
How It Happened
UNLV opened the first set with a 17-8 lead, but a kill by Rendahl (watch) cut the Rebels' lead to eight. An attack error and blocks by Grace Doyle and Sukhov trimmed the UNLV lead to 18-11, the Rebels ended the set on a 7-3 run to claim a 25-14 opening set win.
Set two saw the 'Dogs fight tough early with a solo block by Doyle (watch) and quick 4-0 run by the 'Dogs (watch) made it 17-12 in favor of UNLV. The Bulldogs continued to fight getting a kill by Savanah Smith to make it a four-point set at 21-17, but four of the final five points went the way of the Rebels to take a 25-18 win.
Set three saw a nice early kill by Smith (watch) and another kill by Smith pulled the 'Dogs within one (watch) at 12-11. Smith stayed hot tying the set at 14 with a kill, but a 5-0 run by the Rebels brought the momentum back on the visitors' side. A kill by Kelley briefly brought the 'Dogs within four at 20-16, UNLV closed out the match on a 5-1 run.
