Bulldogs sweep season finale at Nevada

RENO, Nev. - The Fresno State volleyball team wrapped up the regular season on Thursday evening with a sweep over Nevada at Virginia Street Gym.
Fresno State (8-6, 8-6 MW), who finished the spring with back-to-back wins, claimed sets 25-11, 25-17, 25-20 over the Wolf Pack for its second sweep of the season.
The Bulldogs hit a season-high .345 as a team and nearly doubled up Nevada (3-12, 3-12 MW) on kills edging the Wolf Pack, 43-23 with sophomore outside hitter Amaria Kelley leading the team with 17 kills adding three blocks and two digs.
Senior outside hitter Savanah Smith tallied nine kills, four digs and two service aces while sophomore setter Mikayla Weiss chipped in 33 assists.
How It Happened
The 'Dogs got off to a hot start in set one going on a 10-0 run to extend a 3-2 lead to 13-2 that was finished with a service ace by Desiree Sukhov. A kill by Smith brought the Bulldogs lead to 18-6 and Fresno State closed out the set with a kill by Kelley for a dominating 25-11 set one win.
Set two saw the 'Dogs stay hot jumping out to a 4-0 lead and went up 12-2 after a 5-0 run. A kill by Sukhov put the Bulldogs ahead 17-9 and the Wolf Pack were unable to get any closer than seven the remainder of the set as the 'Dogs won 25-17 to go up two sets to none.
The Bulldogs completed the sweep in the third set with a hard-fought 25-20 win battling tough with ties in the set at 15, 16, 19 & 20. The 'Dogs closed out the set with five straight points racking up a kill by Sukhov and Doyle, a pair of aces by Sukhov and closed out the set with a Wolf Pack attack error.

- The 'Dogs earned their fourth straight win over Nevada and improve to 4-4 in Reno as members of the MW.
- The Bulldogs finish with the season with a 8-6 overall record for their fifth winning season as a member of the MW joining 2012, 2013, 2016 & 2018.
- Head coach Jonathan Winder finishes his third season with 44 wins for the second-most wins in a head coaches' first three years trailing only Lindy Vivas (53) from 1991-93.
- Fresno State finishes in a tie with Wyoming for fourth place in the Mountain West after the Cowgirls lost in five sets at home to San Jose State on Saturday.
- Sukhov tied her career high with four service aces.
- With 11 digs on Thursday, senior libero Jocelyn Rodriguez finishes her Bulldog career with 705 digs.
- Kelley led the 'Dogs in kills (171), Sukhov in service aces (26), Rodriguez in digs (227), Doyle in blocks (64) and Amilya Thompson in assists (290) this spring.
