FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State senior goalkeeper Courtney Walburger was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Defensive Player of the Week, the organization announced on Monday. Walburger picks up her first career conference recognition.
Â
The senior goalkeeper recorded a career-high 18 saves in the regular season finale against UC Davis on Saturday. Her 18 saves mark the third-most in a game in program history, and the most in a game by any MPSF keeper this season. She faced the most shots of her career, going up against 54 from the Aggie offense on Saturday. Against the UC Davis free-position attempts, Walburger held the Aggies to 7-of-15 shooting. Also against the Aggies, Walburger picked up two ground balls to tie for the team high in the game.
Â
Walburger represents Fresno State's ninth MPSF Player of the Week this season, and first defensive honoree on the year. The Costa Mesa, Calif. native became the first Bulldog to earn the defensive weekly honor from the conference since goalkeeper Laurel Maunder was named the Defensive Player of the Week by the MPSF on Feb. 19, 2018.
Â
