Eldredge named Rookie of the Year, 'Dogs earn five All-MPSF selections

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State lacrosse team had five Bulldogs represented on the 2021 All-MPSF team this season, the organization announced on Thursday. The Bulldogs' selections were highlighted by freshman attacker Logann Eldredge being named the MPSF Rookie of the Year. Eldredge also earned a spot on the All-MPSF team as an attacker. Junior Sydney Skalstad (attack), senior Hannah Krats (midfield), sophomore Hennessey Evans (midfield) and freshman Devon Ortman (defender) round out the Bulldogs' selections this season.

Fresno State had the only two freshmen represented on the All-MPSF team this season in Eldredge and Ortman.

Eldredge is the Bulldogs' third-ever MPSF Rookie of the Year as the 'Dogs have earned the last three honors by the conference. The freshman attacker finished fourth on the team in goals (23) and second in points (32). Eldredge scored five hat tricks this season, and had at least one goal in all but one game on the season. She scored a career-best four goals and three assists for seven points at Kent State. Her seven points are tied for the third-most points in a game in program history. Eldredge scored three points in each contest against the Bulldogs' ranked opponents this season - three goals versus then-No. 20 USC, one goal and two assists against then-No. 16 Stanford. The Herriman, Utah native tied the program record with five MPSF Rookie of the Week honors, and had the most consecutive honors (3) in the history of the program.

Skalstad represents the Bulldogs as a two-time All-MPSF attacker. She led the team in scoring for the second-straight season. Her 32 goals on the year is the seventh-best in program history. Skalstad scored at least one goal in all but one game this season, with 10 multi-goal games. The Pasadena, Md. native led the team with 81 shots and 62 shots on goal. She posted a single-season career-best shots on goal this season. Her 81 total shots are the third-most in a season in program history. From the 8-meter, Skalstad was 50 percent in her free-position shooting on the year, finishing No. 11 in the NCAA in free-position goals per game (1.27) She was 15-of-30 from the 8-meter this season. Outside of her scoring efforts, Skalstad was a force at the draw. She recorded a program record 12 draw controls at Kent State earlier this season. Her 56 draw controls on the year is a single-season career-best mark, and the second-most in a season in program history. Skalstad became one of five Bulldogs to record 100-plus career draw controls this season.

Krats is another two-time All-MPSF honoree. The senior midfielder was an essential part to the Bulldogs' rotation this season, finishing in the top five on the team in goals, shots, assists, draw controls and caused turnovers. She became one of five Bulldogs in program history to record 100-career draw controls. Her 33 draw controls won this season was a single-season career best for the senior. Krats finished the season with a .750 shots on goal percentage, the third-best on the team for players with more than 10 shots on goal. The senior finished the season ranked No. 4 in shots and No. 6 in draw controls in the MPSF.

Evans earns all-conference honors for the first time in her career. The sophomore midfielder did a bit of everything for the Bulldogs this season, finishing second on the team in goals and shots. She led the team with 13 caused turnovers, and was fourth in ground balls. The Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. native scored in all but one game on the year, finishing the season with five hat tricks on the year to tie for the team-high this season. Evans stayed towards the top of the conference standings in caused turnovers throughout the season. She had a career-high three caused turnovers at Kent State. Her three turnovers caused at Kent State tied for the most in a game by any player in the MPSF this season. She opened the season with seven-straight games with at least one caused turnover.

Ortman is the first Bulldog freshman to earn a spot on the All-MPSF team who had not been named Rookie of the Year. Ortman earns a spot on the team as a defender, having finished her rookie season third on the team in ground balls. She opened up her career with a season-best four ground balls in a nonconference matchup at UC Davis. The freshman did a little bit of everything for the Bulldogs this season, having prominent appearances on the draw and with ground balls. She finished the season third on the team in both stat categories. She had a career-best eight draw controls at Robert Morris to tie for the third-most draws in a game in program history. Ortman opened her career with one goal, four ground balls, three draw controls, and three caused turnovers versus UC Davis. Her three caused turnovers versus the Aggies tied for the most caused turnovers in a game by any MPSF player this season.

Fresno State opens the MPSF tournament this Friday at 2 p.m. PT against No. 2 seed San Diego State. The winner of Friday's game will move on to Saturday's championship game versus No. 1-seeded UC Davis.
