Fresno State secures series win over SDSU, 4-1

SAN DIEGO – The Fresno State softball team finished the regular season with a series win, defeating San Diego State 4-1 in game three on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs will go into postseason play with an overall record of 36-10 (20, 4 MW).
Keahilele Mattson and Miranda Rohleder both went 2-for-4 at the plate to propel the 'Dogs to victory. In the circle, Hailey Dolcini and Dariana Orme split innings. The duo combined for six strikeouts and only allowed one run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first frame. Kaitlyn Jennings drew a leadoff walk and quickly stole second base. Rohleder laid down a bunt and a fielding error allowed Jennings to score. The Aztecs struck back in the bottom half of the inning to knot the game 1-1.
Fresno State retook the lead in the top of the fifth. Rohleder kicked off the inning with a single to right field. Mattson followed with an RBI double to right center giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
The 'Dogs secured the victory with a two-run inning in the seventh. Mattson blasted a one-out triple down the right field line for her second multi-base hit of the game. Adrianna Noriega smashes a two-run home run over the left field fence. Fresno State took a 4-1 lead into the bottom half of the inning.
Orme and the defense went to work to get the final three outs for the series win.
