Stroud declares for NBA Draft, could return

Fresno State’s Deon Stroud will enter his name into consideration for the 2021 NBA Draft and hire a NCAA-certified agent, which preserves his eligibility to return for his junior season with the Bulldogs.
FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State sophomore guard Deon Stroud will enter his name into consideration for the 2021 NBA Draft, while retaining his eligibility to return for his junior season by hiring a NCAA-certified agent, Stroud announced on his Instagram page on Wednesday.
"One of my goals is to play in the NBA," Stroud said. "By declaring for the NBA Draft, I'll be able to get feedback from NBA teams on if I am ready now or what I need to keep working on to get there. I love playing for the Bulldogs and our team really feels we are in a great position to battle anyone next season."
In his first season back in Fresno, Stroud averaged 12.2 points and 3.7 rebounds in 23.1 minutes per game during the 2020-21 season.
Stroud started 16 of his 23 games played as a sophomore for Fresno State and led the Bulldogs' starters by shooting 48.2 percent from the field (106-220 FG). Â Stroud started his collegiate career at UTEP before returning home to Fresno in 2020.
"Deon's looking to get feedback and we support him in this process," Fresno State head coach Justin Hutson said.
Stroud is the second Bulldog to declare this spring for the 2021 NBA Draft – joining Orlando Robinson in an effort to receive more detailed feedback and perspective from NBA teams. While Stroud is going through the pre-draft process with a NCAA-certified agent, Robinson has not hired an agent.
Both Stroud and Robinson had until May 30 to apply as an early entrant and have until July 7 to decide whether or not to withdraw from consideration in the 2021 NBA Draft.
There are three former Bulldogs currently on NBA rosters – seven-time NBA All-Star Paul George (Los Angeles Clippers), Tyler Johnson (Brooklyn Nets) and Paul Watson (Toronto Raptors) – and 22 NBA Draft selections in the program's history, which includes five first-round picks.
