FRESNO, Calif. – After entering his name into consideration for the 2021 NBA Draft in late May, Fresno State rising junior Deon Stroud has decided to return for his junior season with the Bulldogs, Stroud shared on Tuesday.
In his first season back in Fresno, Stroud averaged 12.2 points and 3.7 rebounds in 23.1 minutes per game during the 2020-21 season.
Â
Stroud started 16 of his 23 games played as a sophomore for Fresno State and led the Bulldogs' starters by shooting 48.2 percent from the field (106-220 FG) in 2020-21. Stroud started his collegiate career at UTEP before returning home to Fresno in 2020.
"Deon's been working hard with our guys this summer and we're excited for this coming season," Fresno State head coach Justin Hutson said.
Stroud was one of two Bulldogs to declare this spring for the 2021 NBA Draft – along with rising junior Orlando Robinson – in an effort to receive more detailed feedback and perspective from NBA teams.
Â
Both Stroud and Robinson had until July 7 to decide whether or not to withdraw from consideration in the 2021 NBA Draft, and both chose to remain at Fresno State.
Â
There were three former Bulldogs on NBA rosters in 2020-21 – seven-time NBA All-Star Paul George (Los Angeles Clippers), Tyler Johnson (Brooklyn Nets) and Paul Watson (Toronto Raptors) – and 22 NBA Draft selections in the program's history, which includes five first-round picks.

- Stroud (12.2 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 48.2 FG%) is one of the most dynamic two-way returning players in the Mountain West for the 2021-22 season.
- During the pre-draft process, Stroud hired a NCAA-approved agent, which preserved his collegiate eligibility, and continued to work out the Bulldogs' coaches and team, while also participating in June workouts for scouts and a pro day in Chicago.Â
