'Dogs drop tough battle to K-State

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Fresno State volleyball team dropped a five-set battle at Kansas State on Saturday afternoon at the K-State Invitational at the Bramlage Coliseum.
Fresno State (3-3) took set one, 25-23 with Kansas State (6-2) coming back to take sets two and three, 25-10, 25-21. The 'Dogs claimed set four, 25-18 to force a deciding fifth set where the Wildcats won, 15-8.
How It Happened
The 'Dogs got off to a fast start in the opening set using a 5-0 run, highlighted by three straight kills from Amaria Kelley, to take a 19-17 lead and closed out the set with a kill from Savanah Smith for a two-point win.
After the Wildcats claimed sets two and three, the Bulldogs never trailed in the fourth set jumping out to a 12-7 lead and extended it to 17-10 after a service ace from Desiree Sukhov. Out of a K-State timeout, the 'Dogs extended their lead to as many as nine (22-13) after blocks from Kasey Purry and Smith and went on for a seven-point win.
Forcing a fifth and deciding set, K-State took a 8-3 lead to force a Bulldog timeout. A kill by Smith got the 'Dogs within four at 10-6, but that was as close as the visitors got as K-State won its fifth straight match.
