- Fresno State (1-1) earned a split on day one of the Fresno State Invitational falling to Loyola Marymount in four sets before sweeping CSUN.
- Preseason All-Mountain West selection Desiree Sukhov led the 'Dogs in kills in both matches totaling 24 on the day.
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball earned its first win on the season on Friday evening sweeping CSUN at the Save Mart Center.
How It Happened vs. Loyola Marymount
- Fresno State won set one, 25-22 while LMU stormed back to win the next three sets, 25-14, 25-10, 25-17.
- The 'Dogs jumped out to a 15-9 lead in the opening set and continued to lead by six at 17-11 after a kill by Grace Doyle. The Lions raced back to tie up the set at 21-21, but the Bulldogs prevailed with four of the final five points closing out the set with back-to-back kills from Sukhov.
- Set two and three were controlled by the Lions with the fourth set seeing the 'Dogs jump out to an 8-1 lead with LMU responding with an 11-4 run to to the match at 12 as they carried that momentum the remainder of the set.
- The Bulldogs were led by Sukhov with 11 kills and Doyle added 10 kills and a team-best seven blocks.
- Junior setter Mikayla Weiss added a team-leading 25 assists.
- Fresno State took sets, 25-12, 25-17, 25-14 over the Matadors.
- Leading from start to finish in set one, the 'Dogs took a 19-9 lead after a kill by Doyle and closed out the set with an ace from freshman Ella Rud.
- Set two and three also saw the Bulldogs lead for the entirety of the sets as CSUN was unable to threaten the 'Dogs.
- Sukhov led the 'Dogs with 13 kills and Doyle added 10 kills and six blocks.
- Weiss chipped in 30 assists and Rud had a team-high four service aces.
- The 'Dogs have now started seven straight seasons with at least one win in their first two matches.
- It was Fresno State's second straight win over CSUNÂ and 11th in program history
- The Bulldogs snapped their streak of five straight seasons winning their season opener.
- It was the first time under Coach Winder the 'Dogs dropped their season opener.
