Fresno State extends its winning streak to five in Mountain West home openers.
The Breakdown
FRESNO, Calif. -Â The Fresno State volleyball team returned home to the Save Mart Center on Thursday evening defeating Colorado State in four sets.
Fresno State (5-6, 1-2 MW) took sets 25-19, 25-14, 19-25, 26-24 over visiting Colorado State (7-6, 3-1 MW).
How It Happened
The 'Dogs got off to a hot start in the opening set taking a 18-8 lead on a service ace by Ella Rud and after the Rams trimmed the 'Dogs down to four at 23-19, a kill by Grace Doyle and a CSU attack sealed the six-point set win.
It was more of the same in the second set for the Bulldogs, who hit .350 as a team in the set, and used a 6-0 run in the middle of the set to extend a 12-7 lead out to 18-7 taking the set by an 11-point margin.
The Rams responded well out of the break in the third set jumping out to a 13-9 lead. A solo block by Rud tied the set at 15, but a kill and back-to-back aces by the Rams gave CSU a 18-15 lead and the 'Dogs could never get any closer in the set falling by six.
A even fourth set saw the Bulldogs hold a slim 22-21 lead and a kill by Desiree Sukhov and blocks from Sukhov and Kasey Purry put the 'Dogs up three at 24-21. One point shy of sealing the win, the Rams responded with three straight points, but a kill from Amaria Kelley and a CSU error notched the win for the Bulldogs.

On the 'Dogs win tonight over Colorado State....
"We talked about defending their middle blockers a little bit more after having trouble with that at Air Force and defending number 17 for Colorado State (Kennedy Stanford) who had been a big hitter for them. It always starts with serving and passing and that has always been the foundation of our program is our ability to serve and pass."Â
