The 'Dogs complete their first sweep over Wyoming since 2013.
The Breakdown
FRESNO, Calif. -Â The Fresno State volleyball team stayed hot at home on Saturday afternoon sweeping Wyoming at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State (6-6, 2-2 MW) took sets 29-27, 25-22, 25-23 over Wyoming (8-8, 0-4 MW) to complete its second sweep of the season.
How It Happened
A wild first set saw ties at 19 through 27 as it took a kill from Savanah Smith and an attack error from the Cowgirls to give the 'Dogs an exciting 29-27 win in set one.
Poised to take set two handily, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-13 lead after a kill by Desiree Sukhov. Wyoming answered back with an 8-1 run that brought the visitors back within a pair at 22-20. After trading the next four points, the 'Dogs closed out the set with a kill from Sukhov to take a 2-0 lead.
Wyoming refused to go down quietly taking an 18-17 lead, but four straight points from the 'Dogs quickly got Fresno State back on track. A kill by Sukhov put the 'Dogs up 23-20, but Wyoming answered back with back-to-back kills from KC McMahon to get within a point. A kill by Mikayla Weiss and one final slam down by Sukhov closed out the sweep for the Bulldogs.
Notables
Head Coach Jonathan Winder
On today's sweep over Wyoming....Â
"We played more consistent tonight than we did on Thursday. It was only the second time with this lineup and we are still figuring out how to play good, quality, consistent volleyball over a long period of time. You can't afford to take 15 point against a really good team and Wyoming played really well tonight and it was a good match."
Up next
The 'Dogs head out on the road next week traveling to San Diego State (5-11, 2-2 MW) on Thursday and UNLV (12-3, 3-1 MW) on Saturday.
