The 'Dogs earned their first road win of the season in a five-set thriller at San Diego State.
The Breakdown
SAN DIEGO -Â The Fresno State volleyball team completed a comeback win at San Diego State on Thursday evening defeating the Aztecs in five sets at Peterson Gym.
Extending its winning streak to three, Fresno State (7-6, 3-2 MW) claimed sets 22-25, 25-22, 17-25, 25-23, 15-12 over San Diego State (5-13, 2-4 MW).
How It Happened
After dropping the opening set, 25-22, the Bulldogs saw a back-and-forth second set going up two at 20-18 after an Aztec service error. With ties at 20 and 21, the 'Dogs used kills by Smith and two straight from Kasey Purry to extend their lead to three and closed out the set with a SDSU attack error.
Set three saw San Diego State lead by as many as 10 on their way to a eight-point set win, but the 'Dogs refused to go away quietly.
A set that saw 12 ties and six lead changes, the Aztecs led the fourth set 21-18, but a 5-1 run gave the Bulldogs a one-point lead. A kill by SDSU out a timeout tied the set at 23, but the 'Dogs got kills from Smith and Amaria Kelley to force a decisive fifth set.
A kill by Smith gave Fresno State a 7-2 lead in the final set and a bad set by the Aztecs pushed the 'Dogs lead to 12-6. With SDSU clawing their back within a pair at 14-12, the Bulldogs sealed the win with Smith's final kill of the match.
