Bulldog trio finishes 3-4-5 in season-opening 5K.
FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State opened the 2021 cross country season on Saturday morning at Woodward Park as the women's team finished runner-up, one point back of the top spot, behind three Bulldogs finishing in the top five. Freshman Morgan Hutchison was the team's top finisher at 19:20.2.
Four of the Bulldogs' top five finishers on the day were competing in their first collegiate races.
Leading through the first two-thirds of Saturday's 5K, Hutchison was passed late, moving into third. Not too far behind her was sophomore Mia Jauregui at 19:22.7 and freshman Shaylee Grimm at 19:28.5. Freshmen Cherling Padilla (20:30.8) and Gianna Chiaramonte (20:31.0) placed 16th and 17th, respectively.
Sam Hawley was lone Bulldog running in the men's four-mile. The junior finished 12th with a time of 21:23.8
