'Dogs falter versus Colorado State

FRESNO, Calif. – Outscored 29-19 in the third quarter, Fresno State was unable to overcome the deficit as Colorado State shot 60 percent from the field during the final 20 minutes to defeat the Bulldogs 78-67 on Monday night at the Save Mart Center.
Haley Cavinder recorded her sixth double-double in the last seven games, leading the team with 20 points and 10 rebounds. The point guard also had a game-high seven assists. Reinserted into the starting lineup, Amiee Book dropped 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting (4-of-6 from 3). Wytalla Motta chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds. Colorado State got 61 combined from McKenna Hofschild (24), Upe Atosu (22) and Karly Murphy (15).
How It Happened
Trailing 33-32 at the half, Fresno State grabbed its largest lead of the second half at three following a pair of buckets from Haley Cavinder. Colorado State countered back with four to retake the lead. Amiee Book then answered with a her third three of the night. Upe Atosu quickly knocked down one at the end. Atosu closed the quarter with three more as the Rams outscored the 'Dogs 23-10 during the final 6:15 as the CSU guard answered a Fresno State 3-pointer three times as the 'Dogs tried to cut into the deficit.
Tamia Stricklin hit a 3 to open the fourth but trailing by eight Fresno State couldn't get one of its next two attempts to fall in its next two possessions before an answer back from the Rams came. The Bulldogs could only get as close as eight the remainder of the game.
Team Notes
The Bulldogs are off during the middle of this week as they see their first bye of the conference season. They return to the Save Mart Center on Saturday to face Utah State. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT.

- The 'Dogs recorded seven total turnovers, their second-lowest total of the season.
Player Notes
- Senior forward Amiee Book tied her season-high with 18 points and went 4-6 from the 3-point line.
- Her four made 3-pointers were her second-most in a game this season. It is the second time in the last four games she has knocked down four.
- Book also had a season-high two blocks.
- Haley Cavinder recorded her 10th double-double this season (20th career) with 20 points and 10 rebounds. It was her sixth in seven conference games.
- Haley Cavinder collected three steals for the third time this season while Hanna Cavinder had three steals for the sixth time this season.
- Hanna Cavinder also matched her season-high with six assists.
