'Dogs falter in four-set contest against Wyoming

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team fell in four sets on Saturday afternoon to Wyoming on Alumni Day at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State (6-14, 0-8 MW) took the opening set, but saw Wyoming (8-12, 4-4 MW) take the next three with set scores tallying 25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 14-25.
How It Happened
The opening set saw the Bulldogs and Cowgirls get off to an 11-11 tie with the 'Dogs using a 7-2 run to take a 18-13 lead. Wyoming answered back with a 4-0 run to pull within one and after the Cowgirls tied the set at 21, kills by Olivia Keller and Grace Doyle put the 'Dogs up a pair. The Cowgirls answered back with two to tie the set at 23 with a kill from Doyle and an ace by Keller giving the 'Dogs a two-point set win.
The second set saw the 'Dogs jump out to a 15-13 lead after a kill by Ella Rud, but Wyoming answered back with a 6-1 run to take a 19-16 lead. A kill by Lauren Sabbatini knotted the set at 20, but the Cowgirls recorded the final five points of the set to even the match at one set apiece.
With the Cowgirls using a 4-0 run to take a 16-10 lead in the third set, the 'Dogs responded with a 5-0 run picking up a kill, a pair of block assists and bad sets to get back with one. A kill by Kasey Purry kept the 'Dogs within two down 19-17, but they were unable to get any closer falling 25-21.
Looking to even the match in the fourth set, the 'Dogs fell behind quickly 8-2 as Wyoming ran away with the set winning 25-14.
Notables
The Bulldogs are back in action next week at Air Force (8-12, 0-8 MW) on Thursday and return home to host New Mexico (11-7, 2-6 MW) on Saturday.

Notables
- It was Fresno State's first home loss to Wyoming since March 13, 2021.
- Rud notched her seventh double-double this season totaling 13 kills and 12 digs.
- Doyle reached double-figure kills for the 15th time this season matching Rud with a team-best 13 kills.
- Purry reached seven blocks or more blocks for the sixth time this season leading the 'Dogs with seven blocks. She has now led the team in blocks in 10 matches.
